He played a pivotal role in the World Cup victory secured by India in the year 1983. He has been the role model for most ‘keepers aspiring to make it to the test squad.

Kirmani has been known for his chatter behind the wicket. An extremely agile ‘keeper, he has scalped many catches and effected tough stumpings. All this was done keeping to quality bowlers. Post-retirement, he has been involved in coaching and administration.
