Scurvy is caused due to deficiency of vitamin C in the body. Vitamin C is needed for the formation of collagen. The deficiency of vitamin C leads to spots on skin, spongy gums, bleeding of gums, loss of teeth, delayed wound healing and pale skin. Human beings lack the enzyme which helps in synthesizing vitamin c in the body so it has to be obtained through diet. Vitamin c can easily be obtained from sources like oranges, lemons, and other citrus fruits, tomatoes, cabbage and green peppers. This disease can be easily prevented by including the citrus fruits like spinach, guava, papaya, carrots and strawberries in out diet and having a balanced diet.
